RURAL HOUSE - MASÍA
SAN JOAQUIN This traditional masía (farm house)
was acquired and reconstructed at the beginning of the eighteenth
century by Martín Melchor Calabuig Calabuig, notary from
the neighboring population of Bocairent and great-grandfather of
the present proprietor Asunción Calabuig Lopez. The Masía
was used as a farm house and summer home of the Calabuig family
and has been handed down in the family throughout five generations
until nowadays becoming a rural house
after a process of renovation and adjustment of its facilities.
The masía is composed of two totally independent rural houses:
San Joaquin I and San Joaquin II which can be connected by a double
door to accommodate larger groups.
San Joaquin I: equipped with 4 double rooms, 1 triple and 1 single,
three complete baths (two of them with hydro-massage shower), central
heating, totally equipped kitchens with dishwasher and chimney,
a large dining hall with chimney and TV, two terraces, and a barbecue
outside.
San Joaquin II: equipped with 4 triple rooms, 3 complete baths,
central heating, sitting room with chimney and TV, living room with
TV and extra beds, dining room, kitchen with dishwasher, an inner
patio with a fountain, and a barbecue outside.
The two houses share: a children’s play area, a converted
irrigation pond swimming pool, a fresh water fountain even in the
warmest days of summer and ample areas to walk and relax far from
the noise of the cities.
Pets are allowed.
The houses are rented complete, independently, by week, for week
ends, fortnights or months.
The approximate price per person per night is 30€.
There is also the possibility of harvesting fruit depending on the
season (mushrooms, asparagus, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, cherries,
pears, figs, pine nuts, blackberries, and kakis).
Additionally, there are typical products of the area such as the
coffee liquour and the herb liquor of Mariola, as well as home-grown
organic fruits and: beans, tomatos, peppers, cucumbers, artichokes,
pumpkins, melons, watermelons, and corn.
A wide variety of activities are available to visitors: Horseback
riding, trekking, cycling, hang-gliding and hot air ballooning for
the thrill seekers.
The masía is nestled in a valley, near the populations of
Bocairent (8 km.) and Agres (1 km.) where it is possible to enjoy
the tranquillity of the splendid landscapes (the views from the
entrance of Bocairent by night and from the ice caves in Agres are
highly recommended).
In Bocairent we can visit its medieval district with sixteen fountains,
its
bullring carved into the rock, churches, museums and the ‘Covetes
dels Moors’.
In Agres we can visit the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu d'Agres
built next to the remains of a medieval castle, stroll along the
streets and drink from fresh and crystalline water fountains and
cross the Mariola
mountain range famous for its medicinal herbs and their ice caves
or neveros.
In addition to the monumental importance of these towns, you will
have
the opportunity to enjoy the gastronomy of the area (gazpacho of
Mariola, , spanish meat balls, fried corn, stews, cream of Agres,
sausages, almond pastries, as well as other regional specialties
like ‘pericana’, ‘borreta’, and ‘bajoques
farsides’) and finish with a liquour, the popular ‘herbero’,
made from crushed dry anise with herbs of Mariola.
